Jon Hood

USA Rugby Strength and Conditioning Coach

Jon Hood is passionate and excited about the future – and for good reason.

As a QUT Clinical Exercise Physiology student, Jon was fortunate to complete part of his practical experience for QUT with USA Rugby, working with the Men’s Olympic Rugby 7’s team from September to December last year as a strength and conditioning intern.

USA Rugby was so impressed that they asked Jon to return to work with them from January until August, working with the team through the World Series and Rio preparation.

Then about halfway through the year, the High Performance manager of USA Rugby offered Jon a four year full time position as a strength and conditioning coach working with USA Rugby between the national rugby 7’s and 15’s squads.

“I have now been fortunate to be the lead strength and conditioning coach for the national 7’s team on tour in London, took the lead role for the 15’s June test window, and designed the training block for the Olympic preparation.

“All of this was only made possible by a few outstanding people at QUT – I now have a dream job working with international and Olympic athletes, which directly came from a practicum placement for my degree.”
